Tough Mudder open house Thursday, July 24

The Tough Mudder Obstacle "Sewage Outlet" has participants crawl through mud up an inclined tube, ending in a four-foot drop into muddy water.

The Town of Drumheller is hosting a drop-in information session on Tough Mudder this Thursday, July 24.
Ryan Semchuck, President of the Drumheller Festival Society, said the 7:00 p.m. session at the Badlands Community Facility will be the first in a series for September’s Tough Mudder.
The Town of Drumheller, Drumheller Festival Society, Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce, Travel Drumheller and Travel Alberta will be at Thursday’s open house to bring people  the latest information on how the event is unfolding, and to hear attendees ideas and ambitions.

Semchuck said the informal style open house will give event organizers a chance to educate and inform businesses and help them prepare to make the most of the opportunities provided by Tough Mudder being held in Drumheller.
“What we want to do now is really work on engaging  with all the local businesses, tourism operators and local community organizations and support groups to get everybody collectively working in the same direction.”
“The nice thing is, we’ve had a few of our team attend a couple of the other Tough Mudder events now, so we have a better idea of how the event works, how the people move, how they shop, how they spend their money.”
Semchuck said community buzz and anticipation has been building over Tough Mudder, but there is still skepticism , partly  because of how little business the Town actually received when the Tour of Alberta came through Drumheller in 2013.
He didn’t have an exact figure available, but said numbers are well on track for the expected 8,000 participants of the event, noting that local hotels are “pretty much booked.”
