Cenovus launches “Great Computer Give-Away

Cenovus Energy will launch its second annual Great Computer Give-Away tomorrow with the goal of putting 300 desktops in the hands of charitable and non-profit groups to help them deliver much-needed programs in the communities they serve.

The company is looking for organizations in Calgary and other communities across Alberta and Saskatchewan where Cenovus operates to apply between May 1 and May 15 at www.cenovus.com for the opportunity to receive the refurbished desktops.

Cenovus will provide a maximum of three units per group. The company is working with Calgary-based DeliverGood, a group that connects charities and non-profits who need supplies, equipment or furniture, with those who have items to donate.

“We’re pleased to once again offer this program to further enhance our community partnerships,’’ said Lynne Douglas, Group Lead Community Investment. “Groups that received computers last year told us they were able to put them to good use, helping them to improve the level of services and programs they provide in their community.”

Last year, a total of 93 organizations received 236 computers through the program. The Newell Further Education Council in southern Alberta was one of the recipients, where the computers quickly found willing users.

“Our organization received three computers in the last Give-Away. They arrived looking brand new and with the help of my 9-year-old volunteer, we had them set-up in no time,” said Jackie Peterson, the council’s program coordinator. “We’re sincerely thankful for the computers. They help our students in their beginner computer courses and business training webinars.”

The desktops become available each year as Cenovus replaces computers in working condition that are more than five years old. The computers are cleaned of all company information and a basic operating system is installed. Keyboards and monitors will also be part of the package provided to successful applicants.

As an Imagine Canada Caring Company, Cenovus has committed to setting aside one percent of its pretax profit to provide financial, in-kind and volunteer support to the communities where we live and work.
